To honor the 49 lives lost, I created this design with 7 colors and 7 marks per color for a total of 49 marks.

A.K.A CARDS FOR ORLANDO

On June 12, 2016 I woke up (in LA) to the horrific news that still stuns me to this day.

Before moving to LA, I spent nearly 10 years living in Orlando and Pulse was one of my favorite places. I wanted to get to Orlando immediately, but had to wait.

I was on a plane to Maui two days later. I had hoped and prayed that I may gain clarity in being there, instead of in Orlando where I wanted to be. While I was on Maui, I had the opportunity to join locals from all around the island who were gathering each day to weave a mile-long lei for Orlando. They taught me how to weave and I spent a few hours each day weaving a small part of their beautiful lei. It was presented in Orlando a week later, divided into three 49-foot sections and placed at each of the main memorial sites. I was finally able to come to Orlando the day after the lei was presented and it was really touching to see it along with so many other items memorializing the victims.

When I returned to LA, I felt helpless but wanted to do something. Inspired from the beautiful people on Maui, I decided to gather hundreds of cards so that people on the west coast could show their love for the people in Orlando.

On June 30, I hosted the first event at The Abbey in West Hollywood. In the following months, I hosted more card decorating events in LA, San Francisco and Las Vegas. Some cards were also done in Philadelphia and sent to me in LA. People from age 3 to age 90 have contributed to these cards. Many creative and beautiful souls gathered to lend their creativity, kind words, tears and to share their love.

The goal was more than 1000 cards, which we did not reach. But enough cards have been gathered so that each family who lost a loved one will receive 12 cards, to represent a year of love. There is also a group of 53 cards, one for each of the injured survivors. There is one for Mayor Buddy Dyer as well as some for Orlando PD and for Pulse. A total of 648 cards were decorated and they were delivered to the Orlando Mayor's Office on Thursday, March 23, 2017. All of these cards are supercharged with love, light, color and words from all of our broken hearts.

We stand with you, we mourn with you, we think of you, we remember you, we are sending you love each day and we pray that each card may bring you a moment of light.
